Worcester Street SuperPark Location Being Re-Evaluated

The Board of Selectmen has asked members of the SuperPark Committee to look at the Perrault Property on Upton Street.

After planning on creating a new SuperPark at 25 Worcester St., members of the SuperkPark Committee have been asked to reconsider the Perrault Property according to chairman Mike Scully.

"The latest update is that The Board of Selectmen has decided to rehash some of the assessment on location and go back to the drawing board so to speak regarding the Perrault property," Scully said.

But Scully isn't convinced and he said other members of the committee are still focused on Worcester Street.

"The committee as of this point is still 100 percent behind Worcester Street," Scully said. "We are still interested in looking at information regarding the Perrault property but so far there’s been nothing presented to us that would change our reasoning behind the Worcester Street property."

During the planning process leading up to a town meeting vote to hire a landscape architect all of the discussions committee members had and the votes that were taken were on the assumption that the park would be on Worcester Street.

Members of the committee, Scully said, are also seeking excess funds that were set aside for the new High School to be sent toward the SuperPark.

"Certainly there are some potential funds coming back from the High School that many of us would like to see go back to the SuperPark since that’s what led to the displacement of the SuperPark," Scully said.

Scully also indicated that rumors have been going around town that are not true and said people should only trust information that comes directly from committee members.

"Incorrect information is certainly bad because it starts rumors and it gets people into spots where they could be angered by that information. Making a decision or having an emotional response to wrong information is certainly never good," he said.

Recently Scully and others had to dispel a rumor that there was going to be a back entrance to the park off Sartell Street.
