Driver, Thought Dead, Was Resuscitated by Emergency Personnel

The driver of a rolled-over tractor trailer was thought to be dead on scene, but was able to be transported to the hospital with "severe injuries."

Submitted by the State Police: Today at 1 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Weston responded to a tractor-trailer crash on the ramp from Route 495 to Route 90 westbound in Hopkinton. Preliminary investigation indicates that, for reasons still under investigation, the tractor-trailer rolled over on the ramp. The crash caused extensive damage to the cab, causing entrapment of and severe injuries to the operator.   Hopkinton Fire and Rescue extricated the operator, Feliz Piedade, 59, of East Providence, R.I., and rushed him to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Piedade eventually succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased.   Piedade was initially thought to be deceased onscene but was given life-saving measures…

Drop Off Toys for Toys for Tots at Shoppers World

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Framingham Toys 'R Us on Saturday.

As part of our ongoing support of the United States Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots, Massachusetts State Police troopers will be at the following Toys 'R Us locations this Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Massachusetts State Police third annual "Fill the Cruiser" day. Toys 'R Us customers who wish to donate a new, unwrapped toy to the Toys for Tots program can purchase one inside the store and put it into the cruiser on their way out. "Fill the Cruiser" Toys 'R' Us locations are as follow:

Sobriety Checkpoints Saturday for Grafton, Worcester County

The Massachusetts State Police will be out in force Saturday night making sobriety stops around Worcester County.

The Massachusetts State Police are preparing to conduct sobriety checkpoints on public roadways in Worcester County tomorrow night. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," said Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, in a press release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety." Traffic Enforcement Ramps Up During Holiday Season

Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.

The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. Sobriety Checkpoints This Weekend

State Police issue a warning for March 10 and 11.

State Police will implement sobriety checkpoints Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 in Worcester County, Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, has announced. The goal of the program is to educate motorists and increase their awareness of the importance of detecting and removing drivers who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, she said. The checkpoints will be operated during varied hours and the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, she said. Safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety, she said.
