Holiday Recipes to Feed the Soul

The Grafton Garden Club shares some tasty recipes.

Share a rich and filling meal with your family on your holiday gathering this year with any of these recipes, courtesy the Grafton Garden Club cookbook. BBQ Meatloaf (75th Anniversary Edition Cookbook, 2006; Jan LaPointe) 1⁄2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped 1⁄2 cup onion, finely chopped 11⁄2 pounds lean ground beef, 85% lean  3⁄4 cup old-fashioned (not quick-cooking) oats 1 egg 1⁄2 cup BBQ sauce, divided 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves 1⁄4 teaspoon ground black pepper Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine green pepper, onion, ground beef, oats, egg and 1⁄4 cup of the BBQ sauce, thyme and pepper. Mix lightly and put into a loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes. Cookies and Holidays: A Sweet Mixture

The holidays are a time for enjoying your friends, family, and neighbors and the Grafton Garden Club has brought us some delicious recipes to share.  Bring these to a holiday party or neighborhood open house and you'll get a sweet reception. Hermits (Holiday Cookie Swap, 1998) Mix together: 2 eggs 2 tablespoons water Reserve 2 tablespoons of this mixture for the top and set both aside Sift together and set both aside 3 cups water 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon cloves 1/4 teaspoon mace 1/2 teaspoon salt Cream together: 3/4 cup shortening 1 1/4 cup sugar Add: 1/3 cup molasses Add in the egg/water mixture and beat. More Than Just a Tree

Making the perfect choice can be a family tradition.

A Christmas tree is one of the most prominent symbols that the holiday season has begun. Not only do families enjoy their time together putting up ornaments and decorating the tree, but many families value the time they spend together picking out their Christmas tree. Grafton has a few places to find a Christmas tree, including Highfields Plantation at 44 Fay Mountain Road, Pell Farm on Soap Hill and George Hill roads and  The Lions Club tree sale at the Grafton Suburban Credit Union, 86 Worcester St.  On a recent weekend day, Thomas Broadbent entered Pell Farm on his own.
