Submitted by the coaches of Grafton Public Schools' Math Olympians “Lara starts at the bottom of a long staircase. She climbs exactly 2/3 of the stairs. Then, she goes back down exactly ½ of the way to the bottom. From that spot, she climbs exactly 2/3 of the way to the top. Finally, from there, she climbs 6 stairs to reach the top. How many stairs are in the staircase?” If you’re not sure, ask a Grafton Public Schools Math Olympian. Math Olympiads is a math enrichment program which provides challenging, thought-provoking math problems. Thinking outside the box is embraced and sharing different strategies is encouraged. Weather in New England can be a tricky thing to judge, but after last night's snowfall one parent in Grafton felt the schools' decision to delay was too little, too late. "I want you to know how upset I am in the timing of your decision to delay school this morning - we were told at 6:45 a.m. - when our children's school bus driver got the call just after they had gotten onto the bus at the top of our hill," Richard Quist said in a letter to Superintendent Jay Cummings that was shared with Patch. According to Cummings, the plan was to open schools as planned. “The roads had all been treated before 5 a.m. and everything was good until we got a heavy rain right as the buses started,” Cummings said. “When I contacted the Department of …

Where can you catch the joy of the season through song?
Ah, Christmas, the time of year when even those who can't carry a tune in a bucket run around humming Tis the Season to be Jolly, Fa la la la la, and Oh! Christmas Tree. Let's face it, this time of year, everything is reason for a song. There is something magical about singing in local rest homes, with the kids at school, or along with the car radio. Many believe singing to the tree keeps it fresh longer, and who doesn't love a rousing rendition of Philip's Not a Dot (Feliz Navidad) from the mouth of a child. If you are looking for a quick way to guarantee you'll be humming in the shower, check out these local concerts. Your spirit will get a boost and the kids will be tickled pink to look out to a full audience complete with smiling faces…
