Volunteers Needed to Build Playground

North Street School will have a new play area when it opens in September.

Volunteers are needed to help install a new playground at North Street School, the current Grafton Middle School, on Saturday, May 12. The installation is going to require the assistance of 20 to 30 volunteers. The entire installation process will most likely take most of the day. Anyone willing to contribute and hour (or more) of their time to this effort is asked to go to the following link to sign up to help: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0B48AFAA29AA8-north The installation will take place rain or shine. Starting in September, North Street School will house students in grades 2-6.

Middle School Performs 'High School Musical'

The performances will be presented May 4 and 5.

Grafton Middle School students will bring Disney’s smash hit movie "High School Musical'' to the stage on May 4 and 5.  More than 50 students cast as jocks, braniacs, thespians, skater dudes, and cheerleaders, will be performing popular songs such as "Start of Something New,'' "Get’cha Head in the Game" and "We’re All in This Together. Under the direction of Lisa Scarlett, "High School Musical" tells the uplifting story of what happens when students break away from stereotypes and explore new interests. Jacob Welch and Amelia Murray play Troy and Gabriella, students who cross the lines of their "cliques" and dare to be different. GMS Teacher Writes Book, Opens Doors

Mandee Adams will sign her book on diversity Sunday.

Grafton Middle School teacher Mandee Adams teaches her students that the world extends far beyond their front doors. So it makes sense that she would write a book about a girl who finds a key to unlock a world of varied and diversity. She will be signing copies of the book, “The Key to the Worlds: La llave de los mundos,’’ from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at Barnes & Noble at the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley in Millbury. The book is written in English and Spanish. A percentage of sales from this weekend’s sales benefits the Grafton Middle School. The book was written by Adams and Nuria Alonso Garcia and illustrated by Jessie Lee Perry. Together they form the company, Project Crisol. Are They the Smartest People Alive?

Join the Grafton Middle School Parent Teacher Group for the third annual Smartest Person Alive competition at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Millbury. Reigning champs, Grafton Middle School teachers Jerry Patraitis and Dave Mitchell, have been studying since last November and are ready to take on challengers and fellow GMS teachers Kelly DiConza and Mandee Adams. A percentage of sales Nov. 5 and 6 will go to the Grafton Middle School PTG so participants are asked to mention the school when making purchases.

New Principal at Grafton Middle School

Shrewsbury middle school assistant principal named.

Grafton Middle School has a new principal. Kristen Gasper, the former assistant principal at Oak Middle School in Shrewsbury, has been named to replace Richard Lind as Grafton Middle School principal. New Grafton Superintendent of Schools Jay Cummings made the announcement. He said he spent a day at Grafton Middle School at the end of the school year to determine the key qualities needed in a new principal there. He said Gasper “brings to Grafton Middle School a unique blend of teaching experience and a strong track record of exceptional leadership that has been cultivated over the past fifteen years at the middle level,’’ according to a letter distributed to the school community. “Gasper has developed an outstanding reputation built upon …
