Submitted by the Grafton Lions Club One of the lesser known holiday gems in the area is the festive, entertaining and fun gala held annually to join in holiday cheer and raise much needed funds to support Lions club charities locally and around the globe. One of the special features of this event is the awarding of the Lions Humanitarian Of The Year Award, which is given to a Grafton citizen who gives continually of their time to improve the lives of the residents of Grafton without looking for recognition for their efforts. Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) supports and develops international humanitarian programs that serve people in need. With the dedication and work of Lions, LCIF is able to improve millions of lives through …

With the recent cold snap, the mannequin has made its way to Lake Ripple.
Charlie the IceOut man has traded his landlubber locations throughout town for his permanent spot on Lake Ripple. Well, permanent, anyway, until he falls through the ice and wins someone some cold cash. Stay warm, Charlie!

As soon as the ice forms, this mannequin will head to Lake Ripple.
The Ice Out Man was hoping to be chilling out on Lake Ripple by now. Sorry, Charlie. “Charlie’’ is the well-dressed mannequin who has been making guest appearances throughout town in recent weeks. The mannequin, often holding a sign saying “Wave to Charlie,’’ has adorned Cancun’s, Stop & Shop, Danielle’s Pub and Koopman Lumber, among other locations. Charlie is a fund-raiser being sponsored by the Grafton Lions Club. When a sheet of ice forms on Lake Ripple, he will make his way onto the frozen water. He will be equipped with a battery-operated clock that is attached to a large stone. When the ice starts to melt, the stone will break through the ice. This will dislodge the battery and record the time that Charlie met his icy demise. The …

South Grafton's 'mayor' is named Humanitarian of the Year.
He’s been called the unofficial mayor of South Grafton. But now Ralph “Skip’’ Michniewicz has an official title: Grafton Lions Club Humanitarian of the Year. He was honored for his efforts at a dinner Saturday night at the Polish National Home. He received a standing ovation as he stepped up to accept the honor. At the dinner, Michniewicz thanked the Lions for the honor and noted that many others work hard to improve the town and are equally deserving. “Skip richly deserves this award and recognition” said Lions Club President Mike Ponting in a prepared statement. “He deeply cares about our community and he’s made it his business to get involved and become a driving force in so many initiatives that have meant so much to our town.” …
