Police Department Open House Part of Grafton Holiday Celebration

Free gun locks, child ID kits, and McGruff the Crime Dog will be among the features of the open house, part of "Grafton Celebrates the Holidays."

Submitted by the Grafton Police Department. Members of the Grafton Police Department will be hosting an open house on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. as part of Grafton Celebrates the Holidays.  Citizens are invited to tour the police station and meet with department members to discuss any problems or issues that might be of concern. There will be free gun locks, Child ID kits and public safety information available for adults.  Badges and coloring books will be available for children who will also have the chance to say hello to McGruff the Crime Dog. Beautiful weather helped make it a perfect day for Grafton Celebrates the Holidays Sunday. Santa's arrival on the Common on the Grafton Fire Department ladder truck was the highlight of the day for the large group of eager chuldren awaiting his arrival.

Grinch Steals Holiday Lights

Three hundred bulbs are missing, the recreation director discovers.

Betty Wright got a very unwelcome surprise when she checked on the holiday lights on the tree in the Common today. A real-life Grinch or Grinches had stolen about 300 bulbs from the string of lights, which remains on the tree year-round. Bulb sockets on the strings of lights near the bottom of the tree were destroyed. These lights were targeted, she suspects, because they are more easily accessible from the ground. Wright, the town’s recreation director, was checking the lights with a crew from Sunshine Sign earlier today when the vandalism was discovered. The tree will be illuminated Sunday evening as the culmination of the annual Grafton Celebrates the Holidays event. She estimates that each bulb costs 27 cents, in addition to the cost …

Mangers are a Major Attraction

The Baptist Church of Grafton will host a Nativity display Sundays.

The traditional Nativity scene outside The Baptist Church of Grafton is just the beginning. Go inside the church Sunday and hundreds of other manger scenes, sometimes known as crèches, await. Some can fit in your hand. Others are tall and colorful. They come from around the world, from Italy to New Mexico to the Holy Land. But all share one quality, the event organizers say. They are unique, beautiful and an important reminder of the spiritual side of what can be a very commercial season. “I think looking at these makes people feel good,’’ said Diane Libbey, Christian education chairman of the church. 5 Places to Share Your Time and Talent this Season

Help the community and feel better about yourself by volunteering.

As the holiday season descends upon us, many organizations are seeking extra help to get through this very busy time. Most are flexible with scheduling and are happy to train. Here is a list of the top five seeking help in the Grafton area: 1. The Community Harvest Project is a farming project that grows produce that is distributed to the Worcester County Food Bank. Farming begins in March and help is always needed. Volunteer hours are held on specified Saturdays, from 9 a.m. until noon. These are subject to change, and subject to cancellation due to weather. It is recommended that you call the volunteer coordinator or the hotline the week prior to a Saturday when you would like to volunteer to make sure hours are being held. Getting …

Grafton Celebrates the Holidays Sunday

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and in Grafton, Sunday, Dec. 4 is the most wonderful day of all. Grafton Celebrates the Holidays is annual celebration of the season. A wide range of holiday activities is planned, ending with a visit from Santa on a fire truck and the lighting of the tree on the Common. Church Welcomes New Minister

The Congregational Church of Grafton, UCC, 30 Grafton Common, is pleased to announce its Intentional Interim Minister, Rev. Robert (“Bob”) Macfarlane, who will begin Dec. 1 in time to celebrate the Christmas season.   He will preside over church services at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.
