A summons is one way police get cases to the court system.
Readers of Grafton Patch may notice the word "summons" included alongside charges in the Grafton police log. In fact, we've received a handful of emails over the last couple of years from people who argue that they were "summonsed," not arrested, and therefore should be omitted from the log. A summons is not an arrest. But the end result is often the same, and we include both summonses and arrests in our log, to be fair. So, let us clarify the difference between a summons and an arrest, and the reasons police might use one over the other when looking to charge a suspect. The arrest stemmed from an alleged incident in Grafton Tuesday afternoon.
Shrewsbury police arrested a 48-year-old Grafton man Tuesday, following a request for help from Grafton police, who said he threatened to kill his girlfriend. Grafton police issued a "be on the lookout notice," Tuesday night for Thomas F. Hussey, of 58 Londonderry Rd., Grafton. They said Hussey was wanted on two warrants, and for threatening to kill his girlfriend. Hussey was believed to be driving a 2008 Chevy Avalanche and to be armed. According to the Shrewsbury police log, Hussey has a "long, violent criminal history." Most recently, according to court records, Hussey was found guilty in September 2011 of assault and battery. Three Millbury teens were arrested by Grafton Police on a variety of charges following a motor vehicle stop on Westboro Road. Parker B. Bourgeois, 19, of 7 Jonathan Ave., Millbury, was charged with possession of class D substance with intent to distribute, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to wear seat belt.
