Massachusetts State Police to Hold Sobriety Checkpoint in Worcester County This Weekend

By Liz Taurasi

Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, Nov. 16 into Sunday, Nov. 17 on a public way within Worcester County.

According to State Police, the purpose of the checkpoint is "to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways.  It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

"the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways." Really? Educating the public is the purpose of these checkpoints? I'm not buying that one. Nobody should drive drunk, and the police should tell the truth.

Well then Martin, what is the truth? Please, enlighten us all with your knowledge of what the truth is that you say the State Police are not telling us.

You really don't know? Their goal is to arrest drunk drivers. Period. Have you ever been through a sobriety checkpoint? Did you come away with the feeling that your education was the prime concern of that officer?

I wonder how many times I can drive through the checkpoint in an hour?
