Grafton Police Chief Blasts Officials Over Finger-Pointing

Grafton’s top cop this morning lashed out after the governor and top state officials publicly slammed police who had faxed a report of possible abuse of an infant who died eight days later.

“We’re the only ones that did anything, yet we get the finger pointed at us,” said Grafton Police Chief Normand A. Crepeau Jr. “It’s very frustrating.”

The fax was misplaced by Department of Children and Families staff for six days, and by the time an investigation was launched on April 11, the child had died. Child welfare officials have repeatedly said police violated the law by not calling in the possible abuse report, rather than faxing it.
