GOAL OFFERS EXPERTISE TO IMPROVE ON GUN VIOLENCE COMMISSION REPORT; OFFERS COMPREHENSIVE REFORM BILL TO END GUN VIOLENCE IN THE COMMONWEALTH

The Gun Owners’ Action League (“GOAL”) today released its in-depth response to the report released on Monday, February 3rd by the Speaker’s Commission to Reduce Gun Violence.   GOAL’s response provides a critique of the report’s short falls including its failure to recognize that gun crime has been increasing under the current laws. GOAL is offering its 40 years of expertise and experience with the Commonwealth’s gun laws to the Speaker and the Legislature to produce concrete solutions to the gun violence problems in the Commonwealth.

“The report delivered last week fails to recognize the failure of Massachusetts gun laws to reduce crime or respect the rights of lawful citizens,” said Jim Wallace, Executive Director of GOAL. “Since 1998, gun violence in the Commonwealth has increased over 200%.  If you fail to recognize the symptoms of the failure of the Massachusetts gun law, you cannot properly recommend a legislative cure.”

“Since GOAL has extensive knowledge of state and federal gun laws, we offer our expertise in this critique and through GOAL’s current reform legislation, H.3264,  An Act Relative to Civil Rights and Public Safety, which delivers a comprehensive solution that will be more effective in reducing gun violence in our neighborhoods and also respect the rights of lawful gun owners in the state.  If our Legislature would truly like to “lead the nation” in gun violence reduction and civil rights protection, H.3264 is the start.”
