Spinney, Thomas Win Grafton Board Seats

1,800 residents cast ballots, including some funny write-in votes.

Grafton voters went to the polls on May 20, and cast ballots in three competitive races.

In the Board of Selectmen’s contest, Bruce Spinney III topped the ticket with 893 votes. Jennifer Thomas came in second with 752 votes. Robert Nault received 656 votes while Lisa Brovelli Kelley came in fourth with 653. Richard Schultze received 173 votes. Spinney won all precincts except Precinct 4, which was taken by Nault.

In the Board of Library Trustees race, Cynthia Zarriello and Gary Beauchamp won the two seats with 875 votes and 774 votes. Michelle Dalal placed third with 714 votes.

Linda Hassinger bested James Walsh III in the Planning Board race, 787 to 658.

According to the unofficial returns from the Grafton Town Clerk's Office, 1,800 voters participated in the election.

Voters in Grafton also offered a bit of humor on their ballots with some amusing write-in votes.

Radio broadcaster Howard Stern received a vote for town moderator. Film director and writer Quentin Tarantino received a write-in vote for School Committee.

Winning by default were Raymond Mead for moderator, Donna Stock for a three-year School Committee seat, Laura Often for a one-year School Committee seat, and Edward Murphy for a five-year Housing Authority seat.
