Upton Finance Committee member Shawn Craig, who will be announcing shortly his candidacy for State Representative, participated as a guest reader at Memorial School’s Read Across America Celebration on Thursday of this week. The national program serves to motivate and promote awareness among children and teens to read.
“I was happy to participate in this literacy program in which people come together to share in the joy of reading. I strongly believe that we must prepare the next generation to compete in the new global marketplace. It starts with reading comprehension,” said Craig.
Reading Across America takes place annually near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, known for his writing of children’s books. Craig read the Dr. Seuss book entitled “I Wish I Had Duck Feet” to a kindergarten class.
