WINNER: Black & White Photo Contest

Readers have been uploading photos for nearly a week. We've crowned a winner.

We received more than 120 entries in our black and white photography contest.

It's never easy to pick the one winner of our weekly photo contest, but upon clicking through the gallery several times, we had to go with Paul Bishop's photo, as shown above.

Using the lighting style of a classic Hollywood photographer, Bishop noted in our comments section that "using discrete light sources and live balancing gives a feel and flexibility that you just can't get otherwise."

Congratulations, Paul: we'll be contacting you to get you your $25 gift card.

Thank you to all who entered: collectively, you've created a gallery of wonderful photos on Patch!

Congratulations Paul. Can't beat the classical lighting of the old masters.

I'm thrilled.. I rarely enter photography contests, but with the subject being black and white work, some our Noire shots seemed a shame not to show. The model is Katie Russo of Framingham, with lighting by Adam Clark, Hair and makeup by John Manning, shot a few weeks ago at my home studio. Peter Worrest of Hudson and I have the task of capturing the moments created. This shot is from an undertaking by the group of us, recreating classic Hollywood looks- Audrey Hepburn, Vivian Leigh, Bogey and Bacall...timeless style. Dramatic lighting, elegance and glamour, sensuality instead of sleaze. Fantastic shots by ALL the entrants, I really was surprised to win given the caliber of the competition!

Shameless attempt at trying to make ends meet: If you are a commercial or theatrical photographer and enjoy my work, I could really use a bit of part time income! We are also available for specialized portrait photography, with attending makeup and hair artist and stage lighting specialist. My portrait shots above are from my home studio; Adam Clark-Lighting; John Manning-Hair and Makeup. John has twenty five years in stage, print, film and television hair and makeup design.. His clients include Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Cheech Marin, and Brooke Shields. Adam is a professional theatrical lighting designer with many of the local venues and theater events. We will be adding a second stylist soon. I became disabled a number of years ago by an incurable illness called Crohns, and do my photography both as a form of art therapy, and a way to supplement my disability income when I can. Though it is very difficult for me to work more than a few hours at a time, I'm quite proud of the work we do! I love doing my volunteer work and posting the Patch galleries I do, but volunteering doesn't keep the heat on! paul.bishop1@comcast.net

I've added a few more of our recent work, I hope you enjoy!

Thank, Jim. It's truly a labor of love for me. To capture that split second when it all comes together takes a lot of work, as you know far better than me- your experience in this area is well known and respected. Especially coming from someone of your experience level in this art- thanks for the kind words!

Jim, I just realized it was YOU who shot our wedding, in1994. We did a rendition of "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf...

I remember that scene well (after seeing the video). Stange how paths cross in life. Jim
