Health & Fitness

Look good in your jeans, with your genes!

We all know working out is good for us, and using yoga as your workout-du-jour is a great way to work the body, mind and soul. There is one thing that can improve on its benefits: sharing your practice with your family. Spending time as a family leads to less arguments, a stronger bond, more memories and gives children a strong home life.

Hopefully, you’ve spent some time this summer going for a walk; maybe it was staying on your feet all day at the kid’s favorite water park. Perhaps you’ve spent time in the car as you drive your kids from summer practice to summer practice in anticipation for the fall sports season. As the summer winds down it is important to keep the momentum going and continue to workout as a family throughout the year, not just when the weather is sunny and 75. There are plenty of winter activities, from building a snow fort to skiing and ice-skating, to keep your family on their toes year round.

Having taught children for over 10 years I know the importance of having an active child, but it is also important that the parent is active as well. How have you and your children (or your neighbors children, or your nieces/nephews or cousins!) stayed active this summer? I would love to see all the different ways you’ve worked-out to workout.
