Grafton's Response to Railroad Filing Expected Soon

Town officials' request for a week's extension, to Aug. 23, was granted by the federal Surface Transportation Board.

Grafton officials will respond to the Grafton & Upton Railroad Co.'s recent federal filing by Aug. 23, Town Administrator Tim McInerney told selectmen Tuesday night.

Town officials' request for a week's extension, to Aug. 23, was granted by the federal Surface Transportation Board, McInerney said.

"I think we'll respond earlier," he said.

The railroad company recently asked the federal board to say that its proposed propane transloading facility is under that agency's oversight only -- not local and state regulations.

Railroad officials want the federal board to "expedite" its decision so that the facility at its Grafton rail yard at 42 Westboro Road will be running this winter.
