Are you, or someone you know, looking for a way to donate your time or talents to a worthy cause?

The seventh annual Grafton Fine Arts Festival is seeking participation on many levels in the 2013 festival. It takes place on March 23 and will be the eighth year of this event. It showcases artists from throughout the Blackstone Valley area, including the art of children as well as that of adults. There will be a variety of ways to participate in the festival, beginning with planning and ending with making the festival happen, as well as, of course, entering your own best art as well as that of your children.

The Grafton Fine Arts and Music Festival, originally partially funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, is held in Grafton every year. It is a busy event spread over most of a week, which begins with the intake of artists offerings, the setup of the display space, space decoration and arrangement of display panels, followed by the hanging of the art. Finally the show itself takes place, featuring two receptions and award ceremonies for children and adult artists.

The festival showcases a variety of art forms as well as artist demonstrations. The artists’ reception and award ceremonies of the past have drawn large crowds who each year came to view artwork from over one hundred local artists and to view the prize-winning art of local artists, from young children to senior citizens.

This family friendly festival is a wonderful way to get involved with people who believe in promoting art appreciation, not only in youth, but in adults as well. One committee member shares: “I responded to a call for volunteers last year. As a newer resident of Grafton, it allowed me to meet people within the town. I also learned about the behind the scenes work which goes into presenting such a dynamic show.”

This festival owes its great diversity and success, not only to the community and the artists that exhibit, but also to its dedicated volunteers. Please join us in continuing the wonderful tradition of bringing fine art and music to the local community.

Contact the festival committee at graftonfineartsmusicfestival@gmail.com to join in working for this opportunity for art to flourish here in Grafton. For general information about the 2013 festival, go to graftonartsfestival.org or view comments at our Facebook page. The next meeting will take place on Jan. 6, 4 p.m. at the Grafton Stop & Shop meeting space.
