Dig In, Go Beneath, and Break Ground @ Your Library!

The 2013 Summer Reading Program at the Grafton Public Library began Monday, June 24th and runs through Friday, August 16th. The statewide theme this year takes us underground--children will “Dig Into Reading,” teens will go “Beneath the Surface,” and adults will discover “Groundbreaking Reads.”

Readers of all ages can track minutes, hours, or pages of reading (as well as submit book reviews) online at www.readsinma/grafton. Register in person or online by July 31 to participate.

As kids “Dig into Reading” this summer, they can set a reading goal, track their reading time and earn prizes. Children’s Librarian Jennifer Mentzer is so excited to Dig Into Reading that she has promised to carry a big pink shovel around with her everywhere she goes, all summer long. If you catch her without it, ask her for a prize!

The Children’s Room calendar is chock full of activities for the summer, from crafts, story times, and movie night, to Sparky’s Puppets and the Museum of Science Dig for Dinosaurs! Check out the calendar on the library’s website or pick up a print calendar when you stop in to register for Summer Reading.

As teens go “Beneath the Surface” they will earn tickets for prizes as they track their reading time or pages, visit the library, or attend a teen program. The grand prize is the World’s Largest Gummy “Book” Worm--can’t get anymore “underground” than that! There are activities for teens going on each week, so be sure to check the library’s calendar online or grab a copy when you stop in.

Adults will discover some “Groundbreaking Reads” as they track their reading time and attend programs that include a gardener’s roundtable, small business startup, author visits, the new Grafton Writer’s Group, Book Lover’s Tea and Adult Book Discussion Group.

The 2013 MA Statewide Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Grafton Public Library, the Friends of the Grafton Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Additionally, the library would like to thank the following local sponsors, Anzio’s Brick Oven Pizza, Pepperoni Express, Grafton Pizza, Lakeview House of Pizza, A & D Pizza, Tony’s Sutton Pizza, and Floral Elegance as they have provided supplies or prizes to encourage our readers.

We look forward to seeing you at the Grafton Public Library this summer! For further details, please contact Suzanne Witham, 508-839-4649.
