Shiny New Changes at Apple

Apple has a new iPhone 5, and Sony Tablet

Grafton technology fans could have a very merry Christmas.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to be out in time for the busy holiday season this year. These are some of the things that I expect the new iPhone to have.

Ships with iOS 5

Apple always makes a improvement to their operating system every year for their newest iPhone and iPad. Probability: 100%

Ships with faster processor

Currently the iPad 2 has a 1GHz A5 dual core processor and since the Android phones already have dual core processors, it's a safe bet that the next iPhone will have a dual core processor.

Better battery life

The battery life from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 improved 40% and it will probably improve from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 5  If Apple includes LTE 4G capability (which is unlikely due to the power requirement) the battery would have to go through a vast improvement to handle the increase of power use over a typical day. Probability: 97%

AT&T, Verizon, Sprint versions available on day one

When the Verizon iPhone was released, it was found that it contained both a Verizon CDMA chip and AT&T GSM chip so Apple can now produce one phone for both networks. Since the Verizon phone broke through the AT&T iPhone monopoly, can a Sprint-enabled phone be far behind? Probability: 95%

Bigger Screen

Whispers circulating around the web point to a bigger screen but Apple needs to find a perfect balance to increase the screen without sacrificing battery life. Probability: 65%

Since the start of the iOS App Store July 10, 2008, just a tad more than three years ago, the total apps that have been approved is 577,614 while the apps available in the store is closing in on half a million at 454,195. If you break it down into apps for specific devices, the total iPhone Apps is 405,388, iPad Apps is 125,010, and in the Mac App Store there are 6,568 apps available. With numbers like that, there's definitely an app for everyone.

Sony is believed to be planning to have a tablet ready for the consumer to purchase. The Sony tablet is to have a wedge-shaped design to make it easier to type on than many other tablets. The S1 version has one 9.4in screen and the S2 has two 5.5in displays to be used as one large screen or for playing a video on one screen and showing control buttons on the other.

Both the S1 and S2 are WiFi and WAN (3G/4G) compatible and will be running the latest version of Android 3.0.
