Did You Feel the 4.6-Magnitude Maine Earthquake?

Reports say it hit west of Portland.

UPDATED 8:39 p.m.: The USGS has downgraded the earthquake to a 4.0. Also, some New Hampshire residents are reporting foundation damage from the rattle.

Facebook just lit up with friends commenting on their houses shaking from the earthquake. According to the USGS, the quake hit 20 miles west of Portland, ME, in Lake Arrowhead.

Within five minutes of us asking if readers felt it on Facebook, more than 100 responded with resounding yesses!

Small tremors were felt in the Greater Boston area after a 4.6 magnitude Earthquake near Lake Arrowhead, Maine

The epicenter of the quake was about 92 miles from Boston.

For more information about tectonic activity in New England, check out the US Geological Survey's information page

The last time we felt the effects of a quake was June 2011, from the rumble in Washington, D.C.

Did you feel it? Tell us in the comments!

Nothing here in the little town of Mendon. Though, I was on the treadmill...and if I felt any shaking I would have assumed it was simply my lead feet.

Friends on the Milford Patch Facebook page are reporting everything from "shaking crockpot" to soda cans rolling in the fridge. But I'm with Danielle, out walking the dog after dark, and felt nothing in Upton.

That was a decent little earthquake. Was wearing headphones and listening to music, and the rumble was so loud I thought the headphones were malfunctioning. Quickly got up and went to the door, and all the dogs in the neighborhood were yapping so they felt it too.

The entire building shook, the floor, lamps table, but I thought it was a large work truck driving outside, except it was weird for the door and walls to have a sensation as well.

We heard the freight train noise (sounded like a hurricane against the house) and then felt the shaking. To us it felt like we were standing on an old train platform as the trains flew by you. Lots of vibration and sound. It was enough to immediately recognize what was going on and sent the kids into a panic. Lots of questions/concerns on their end afterwards.

I live on Lake Arrowhead in Maine, and it was the most frightening moment in our lives. It was like two explosions one after another which made the whole house shake, kitchen cabinets popped open and crystal glasses were clanking. It also turned off our furnace which at first, made us think that the furnace had exploded. The furnace is fine and right now the lake and everything around it is very calm.

About 3 minutes before I felt the shaking in Northborough my dog was walking around the house crying much like she does before and during a thunderstorm but right after she calmed down and laid at my feet again I felt the house shake. I can't believe she was able to feel this happen before it hit my house. She was trying to warn me!
